Proteomics is a rapidly advancing field that focuses on the large-scale study of proteins, their functions, and interactions within the context of disease mechanisms. Understanding the proteome—the entire set of proteins expressed by a genome—has become essential for comprehending complex biological processes, identifying disease biomarkers, and developing targeted therapies. This article explores the role of proteomics in the identification and characterization of disease mechanisms, including cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, and cardiovascular disorders. The integration of proteomic data with genomics and metabolomics offers a comprehensive view of disease pathophysiology and presents opportunities for personalized medicine. The article discusses the technologies and methods employed in proteomics research, including mass spectrometry, protein arrays, and bioinformatics tools, while addressing challenges such as data complexity and reproducibility. The potential of proteomics to revolutionize drug discovery and therapeutic development is also highlighted.
